Usually, civilized people have a lineage name with a good and decent hi in front of it. But now my group is going ot flounder about Vra, and there the inhabitants have this odd custom of using some... other prefix. Now, my question would be if all clans on the island of Vra follow this custom, or if it just the Joyous ones, so to speak?

I don't know that all the clans would follow this custom. If, for example, a clanhouse of the Cloak of Azure Gems were established there, I don't think they'd all change their names.

I'm with the Beast. Clans and clanhouses that consider themselves "native Vrayani" would use vu-, clans that established themselves as immigrants after the Imperial conquest about (I think) 1400 years ago would use hi-. That's one way to look at it. Another is that the Vrayani were pretty forcibly integrated into the Empire after the conquest, and might not have resumed using vu- until the Emperor called "Restorer of Dignities" gave them back their ruling family a few hundred years ago. Details of Vra history have been accumulated in a file in the Yahoo group archives, something about Southern Isles. Much of what little is known about the conquest comes from Deeds of the Ever-Glorious.

Epengar has got it right, as far as I can tell. And Deeds of the Ever-Glorious is available through DriveThruRPG if you are so inclined.

I believe that the Vu or Vra prefix is the Isle of Vra or the Vrayani exclusively (from my memory!)
There's a few more prefixes spread throughout the Tekumeli cultures from civillized Five Empires to the "barbarian lands" elsewhere.
I think that I found some new prefixes for Characters that were from the areas of Piltu Dasaru, Pencha Negal or Nlussa. I think that the prefix was something like"Vag'.....meaning "Son of" in the Patriarchal nations.
I will have to look all of this up, as I gathered some info once to 'do' a Campaign based around all of the 'quirky' native areas , basically North-East and South-East of Lake Parunal (Map 3 from the lovely coloured G&G Map). I'm pretty interested in the 'cross-breed human types that have the gills and secret language around the Lake too .....
Ohe .... Hello All Tekumel Fans. Martin from Perth here - a Veteran Tekumel GM who favours a Gardasiyal and S&G admix. I have TONNES of Contributions for Everyone ... if you'd all like.
Currently I'm gathering info to do a scenario on influences and inflitration of agents of The Goddess of the Pale Bone.
Anyone heard of 'Energy Vampires' (Like in the Sci-Fi Movie "Lifeforce")
