150+ users and the board's been quiet for ages.

Do you people still want this board to continue? Is it useful? The reason I ask is that despite my best anti-spam efforts I still get 10-20 (manual!) spam registrations a day I have to delete, and it's not worth the effort if no one wants to use this board.

Is it a lack of new material to talk about? Can Tekumel support a bulletin board like this?

I'd be interested in any opinions. I don't get paid for this you know ... ;)

I would really like to see this forum continue. There isn't always that much activity, but the little there is seem to come in "bursts". The most superior way to discuss Tékumel online is still trough a forum. The information and threads are far more searchable and reachable than other variants, like mailing lists.

Sure, I would enjoy a more active forum more, and I understand that the spammers keep you frustrated (are you able to block their IP-adresses as well? Maybe you can ad one of those picture-generators with distorted letters as part of the registration?), but I hope you have confidence in that this forum still has a lot to offer to the Tékumel-community online. Seems people just need to start to aknowledge it a little more. A matter that maybe isn't that easy to change - you can't expect to teach an old dog to sit, really. ;)

Personally, I hope you "endure" a little longer. When this forum is at it's best, it still kick butt. Lets just hope those peaks come more frequent in the future.

Yes please keep this going. This list does seem to go in "bursts" but so do the other Tekumel lists. The lack of truly new material may be a problem also. Many GMs and players will not have the material from older editions nor should they be required to get it, though it would be nice.

With the fall of GOO, support for the world will also fall again as new players will not see it (and we know this world was never "main stream" anyway) so we need all the support possible.

What we need is new material and lots of it, and since the professor can only do so much most of this would be non-canon material.

How about a little contest - no prizes of course, though perhaps the results could go in the Book of Visitations of Glory.

So.. On my website is a map and short description of a non-canon town in Kilalammu. Just follow the link below.

Write a short adventure set in this town and submit it here. The members can vote for the best one, and if the editors agree it can go in the Visitations, what do people think? :D

Site is below;

I also like having a forum around. Alternate avenues of communication.

I will post new tidbits as I come up with them for my Joyous of Vra campaign (as I have with Concupissance and Vrikhan).

Please keep this forum. I lurk here quite a bit, so I am guilty of non-posting, but this is mainly due to my excessive work loads, big family, and highly eclectic gaming... plus, I am sort of in-between regular rpg while expatriated. Anyway, I'd say that it could be handy to do something unique in order to generate more traffic, especially since there are so many people over at the varied yahoo groups. Not sure what it would take, but I do like the idea of some ongoing contributions that would be of the canonical sort. So many people of ideas, gm-tricks, etc., that it could be a useful clearing house here... perhaps other incentives to get things rolling could help, as well...

I, for one, would love to see a sort of "interactive" set of posts dedicated to a round of character generation, some adventuring threads, as well as, if possible, some good examples of how different mechanics in the rules are used--all within the classic, canonical, atmosphere, flavor, and rich detail of the Tekumel world. I think this could spur more lurking and more posting, conversations, etc.

Anyway, I am just brain storming. I wonder if someone would step up to run an online, extended, play example with the GOO rules... this could help to add to the great examples already in the book, but keep a group of people growing, learning, applying, etc.

Thanks for the support folks, it's appreciated. I'm continuing to install various mods in an attempt to stave off the [insert strongest and most obscene adjective you can think of here] people who think that spam registering on a tiny board like this one is worth the effort. It's unbelievable.

Visual confirmation is on, but it doesn't stop manual spam registrations. However since all registrations have to be passed by me, at least none of them get to post messages about their useless filth on the board. It's just such a stupid waste of time by everyone concerned!

Anyway, the Tekumel forums will live on! Cheers.

Thank you for your time and effort Ksarul. Without this website and the forums I would have been much less likely to get back into journeying the lands of Tekumel.
I am also a lurker on this board for the most part, but I may have something to contibute. I am finishing up a sceanario centered in a village to the northwest of Pala Jakalla and deals with an estate of a very wealthy family. It will include a romp through an ancient part of the tsuru'um as well as some politcal intregue and some general head bashing. Once it is finished I will post it here for those who are interested.

I can't recall the signup interface... do you have any sort of a object-recognition step such as at Yahoo to stop automated signups?

Yes, visual recognition is in place, so you have to type in a code. If this wasn't on I'm sure I'd get a hundred times more spam registrations. There's little one can do against sad bastards who are typing them in manually though - even though they never get past my manual approval process, and therefore can never post on the board.

It's such a senseless waste of time!

For a long time I've been thinking that this Forum should be THE place to go for Tekumel discussion. Not Yahoo and certainly not Facebook or Google+. I tried to find a discussion on Google+ the other day and it proved impossible!

So, lately I've been trying to start some discussion threads. Not many bites as of yet...

Look for the Tekumel community on Google+. If you go to the main community page, there's a Search this Community in the left nav bar.

I'm thinking of converting the website to WordPress and changing this forum to BBPress. That may liven things up a bit (it would certainly make it easier to read).

Tekumel.com certainly does need a bit of a revamp, but it's a big (unpaid) project!

You miss my point. Google + is no good - IMO - there is no permanence. No lasting record. Somebody posted a pic of one of the art cards I had enclosed in the Excellent Travelling Volume and I thought I would go and see if anyone had anything to say about it (or them) - good/bad, any comments whatsoever. Could I find it? Nope. Disappeared into the morass that is Google +!

Facebook is just as bad. That is why I keep saying discussions should be here. Look at those pictures of the Bey Su map. In a few weeks or months they will be gone and forgotten.

I agree that it would be better on a forum. This has been discussed about every three or four years for the last 20. Getting people to move over here hasn't seemed to work very well. One problem is that forums require users to go seeking conversations and topics, rather than having the topics pop up in your inbox. It requires users to be active, not passive. Psychologically, that's a big barrier to participation. For example, this is the first conversation I've had on here in about 3 years.

At least the Yahoo group has the Files and Photo sections to retain content.
