The way I deal with the ephemeral nature of G+ and FB is that I post content that is more permanent on my blog and then post a link to G+ and the Yahoo group. When I see content that I want to refer to later, I bookmark the blog or post. Not a perfect system, but it works for me.

For a long time I've been thinking that this Forum should be THE place to go for Tekumel discussion. Not Yahoo and certainly not Facebook or Google+. I tried to find a discussion on Google+ the other day and it proved impossible!

So, lately I've been trying to start some discussion threads. Not many bites as of yet...

I'll join in. Good to hear digitizing Tekumel is only on hiatus, I look forward to seeing more

I agree that it would be better on a forum. This has been discussed about every three or four years for the last 20. Getting people to move over here hasn't seemed to work very well. One problem is that forums require users to go seeking conversations and topics, rather than having the topics pop up in your inbox. It requires users to be active, not passive. Psychologically, that's a big barrier to participation. For example, this is the first conversation I've had on here in about 3 years.

Seems to me one problem with social media venues is, they almost make it too easy. It's easy for people to slip into the habit of "participating" with a simple "like" or "+1" That illusion of easy participation ends up being a barrier to real participation. So you don't see that many real conversations after all. Just one-off comments, each with its string of "likes"

At least the Yahoo group has the Files and Photo sections to retain content.

I like that too. Also the fact that it includes postings by the Professor. My only concern with the Yahoo Group is the fear that Yahoo may one day suddenly pull the plug on the whole groups thing.

I backup the Yahoo groups periodically. If they do something like that they would give 6 months notice.

That's good to know, thanks. It's a huge and searchable resource.

Are the files and photos backup-able too?

Belatedly, yes!

Yes, I mean, to forums over 'social media' and Yahoo email; to focusing future discussions & chat here; to trying to be more active/productive, personally.

I'm dubious about the latter, TBH. On one hand, I've been very active in the last couple years -- we've had a regular every-other-week campaign(s) going since, I think, 2013, in chief part. On the other hand, I (and my gaming group) have fallen far away from Pukka Tekumel, both in the style of gaming and in the contents of the world, so I'm not sure there's anything _to_ contribute. But I do support the effort!

Thanks, Peter, for all the work and resources you've invested in this site over the years!
