Hi all What's the sea like as a magically fertile or barren area. Thinking of getting some of Rod Langtons 1:1200 ancient ships and having some battles but does magic work on the open waves? Any help gratefully received

I don't think that anything in particular has been said about it, and its kind of business as usual with oceans and magic.

Hi do hlaka need a run up to start flying? Only reason I ask I would they need a special flying off deck a top a galley. Or would it me normal for fleets to carry small numbers of hlaka as scouts that could fly straight of a regular ship?

I don't think Hlaka need a running start, but they do need a lot of space to get their wings open. I'm not sure how they feel about flying over the sea though. If they were on ships, I'd expect them to want special crows nest accommodations in the rigging to they can drop off into the air. They would not want be down on the crowded cluttered deck.
Magic at sea is a good question. I've looked into it before, and it's not covered well. Supposedly there are long-term protection spells cast on ships to protect them from magic, similar to the ones that the Temple of Hnalla can do for buildings, but there's been no details about them.

But of course, why would a Hláka even allow itself to be on a boat in the first place? Surely the only reason one would need to ask oneself whether they would need a run up was if they were trying to escape?
