Having gamed with Professor Barker and gotten some fun ideas, I'll share them here. The good Professor was a lot more active back in the '80's and we used to share campaign plots at times.
(1) The Super Item.
The players are asked to deliver a very special item to another destination. They will be warned that the item is being sought by enemies.
a- The item is a filigreed gold sphere with some sort of contents dimly seen inside. Nothing can open it. It is actually an interplanar component for a device that if assembled will allow the owner to cause a dehiscence in the plane. Bad idea. Defend it. Enemies will be very powerful, use Ru'un, undead of high level and various devices to get it.
b- The item is a book. Inside the book are pages and pages of sigils. If one traces a sigil fully with a finger the book will open a nexus point. Some of the nexus points may be very dangerous, and there is no guarantee that the book has a page which can be used to return to Tekumel. As above, the bad guys want it and have word the party has left their temple/clanhouse/patron recently. One of the pages goes to a pocket plane which has a nice field of grass, a few trees and a small hut in the middle. Inside the hut are many odd items, and pages of script in different languages.
c- A small item, the stone looks a lot like a modern world 'worry stone', it is disc shaped and has a small oval in the middle, like a flat version of an 'eye'. Deliver it, but dont rub it or you may be somewhen that you don't want to be.
(2) The Secret Society
a- You are contacted by a secret society of your temple. It is of paramount importance that you intercept an enemy agent and get the package that agent is carrying. No one of the society can do this, they are too visible.
(in reality the society wants the enemy to think that some random thief got the package and if you die, well... no traces to them)
b- It is your job to guard an important personage, make sure that your life is lost before theirs or it won't be a life worth living. Perhaps this is a prince or princess who was never revealed, perhaps its some one whom the society cannot afford to lose.
c- Theres a dungeon worth delving in. Unfortunately, the society cannot be there, and since all property belongs to the Empire it would be best if you remained anonymous until it is disposed of. You are expendable, but there are great rewards if you succeed.
